Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the agreement must be pursued by abandoning any plan to annex parts of the West Bank and that if the agreement could lead to its withdrawal from the Palestinian territories, it would bring the Middle East closer to peace. Otherwise, the Arab-Israeli conflict would only get worse. Longtime New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, who has written for decades on international geopolitics and has been a regular critic of Trump`s policies, hailed the deal as “exactly what Trump said in his tweet: a “huge breakthrough.”” Jared Kushner, the trump administration official who participated in the negotiations of the agreement, told CBS News that the agreement would make the Middle East more peaceful and hopeful, meaning fewer U.S. troops would have to be deployed in the region. Foreign Affairs Minister Mike Pompeo said the agreement was an important step toward stabilizing the region and was good for the world. Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to the President of the United States, condemned Kuwait`s position. However, according to Al Jazeera, his conviction was widely shared on the Internet as positive. However, the Government of Kuwait itself has remained silent on the agreement. On 18 August, 37 Kuwaiti MPs asked them to condemn the agreement. Two days earlier, the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas, citing unnamed government sources, had indicated that the Kuwaiti government`s position vis-à-vis Israel was unchanged. Bahrain, Israel and the United Arab Emirates should ensure that these agreements are not only an agreement between governments, but also among their citizens. Education can make that possible. The recent agreement between Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in the United Arab Emirates and The Weizmann Institute of Science of Israel on cooperation in the development and use of artificial intelligence is an important first step.
The agreement is called the “Abraham Agreement,” after the father of monotheistic religions founded in the Middle East – Christianity, Islam and Judaism. The government of Oman has publicly supported the agreement (which it described as “historic”). The Grand Mufti of Oman, Ahmed bin Hamad al-Khalili, indirectly criticized the treaty. Ahmed Mulla Talal, spokesman for the Iraqi government, said that Iraq would not interfere in the sovereign affairs of other countries, but that its laws did not allow for the normalization of relations with Israel. The Israel-UAE agreement has many geopolitical dimensions. At the regional level, they address the common perception of Iran, Turkey and the Muslim Brotherhood as threats from the UAE and Israel. There is no doubt that Trump`s bitter re-election also motivated Israel and the United Arab Emirates to conclude the agreement. However, if we think about why the Trump administration has worked hard to pass the Abraham Accords, which even its Democratic opponents in Congress have praised, let`s not forget Washington`s efforts to strengthen the primacy of the Us in the region led, to consolidate its influence over two states that have served as close partners for many decades, and to counter an emerging China in the region.
